Spring settling timeframe

I'm probably going to swap on some Cobalt SS/TC rear springs soon. Every thread about spring swaps says to give them 30 days to settle, but is that real calendar time, or an approximation based on typical mileage? I ask because I genraally only put on about 150 miles a month. Yes, you read that right.

Also, will I have any issues if I have a TTR rear sway bar put on with the springs?

Settling is just a term to describe the springs getting firmly seated in the perch area. The springs themselves may or may not settle a slight bit. 100 miles or so, and a few good bumps and they're usually settled in.
I measured mine numerous times after swapping springs. Never noticed much settling at all after a few thousand miles. 1/8" at the most.

Adding a swaybar will not affect the springs. Only make it handle a little better.

Dracos-

I have that exact set up on my '08, SS/TC + TTR. (you'll dig it)..

Good springs seem to take longer to settle, imo..

Springs dropped 1" after install. Took about 500 miles to settle in at 1-1/4" which has been at that level for well over 3 years now.. But I haul stuff too.

Wow it dropped that much with those? I thought I read only 3/4 but heck 1-1 1/4 is more prefered . I see Rockauto is $130 something before shipping for all four corners. Has anyone found cheaper or is that the best pricing currently?

I think the springs will be a great addition but would rethink the TTR sway bar. There are others that work immensely better. That is on my SS, I have not felt the need for a bar on the 2lt, the YYZv1 springs have no roll even with fe3 struts and shocks.

I ordered the SS/TC springs and the TTR bar last night. The main reason for the springs is aesthetic, to drop the back end.

Yes it dropped it 1-1/4" in rear. Try GMParts Direct, IIRC I paid $70. delivered, probably cheaper now (but that was just rears)... Or look on Cobalt SS site for used. They always seem to be selling some sets.

Dracos-

Cool, the springs do more than just look better, getting the rear a bit lower made a BIG diff on mine in handling.

Wait till springs settle before you re-adjust the headlights.. One time & good.

I put the TTR bar on a month later, & was very pleased at the improvement on cornering, etc.

$31.93 each plus $16.60 shipping at gmpartsdirect.com.

I never adjusted my headlights after I put my Depos in a year ago, still need to do that.

I'll probably do the springs and bar all at once.

That'll work fine.. I purposely did the springs first, to judge the diff.. Then later the Bar.. Both had made noticable positive improvements.

Good combo.. I used Loctite on the Bar bolt threads, they stay tight now..

PS: Don't forget to unbolt the rear brake line fastener from rear axle beam before you hang it, to drop the springs. It's not long enough to travel all the way down.

I won't be doing it myself, I already talked to a shop about having it done.
