Ss fe5 struts and springs
Ss fe5 struts and springs
Hi,
I ask myself if fe5 struts and springs will fit in my LT?
And how much will this setup lower the LT?
Can anyone tell me pls.
Also, can i simply just change the springs, struts and rear shocks? Or do i have to buy spring seat, insulator, bumber etc. too?
Thanks for your help

Skyline26 did that and just changed springs and struts and shocks, but when he was parked in my driveway beside Oldblue last spring, his HHR was 1 to 2 inches taller then mine. I'd suggest KYB struts and shocks and a set of Canuck Motorsports lowering springs. old blue shows up several times on this page, the IBM with red rims
Oldblue. He's the guy in Germany with all those strict inspection rules about which parts he can put on his car.
He said Eibachs were illegal for him to use. Probably the Cannucks too. Guessing that's why he's asking about some "stock" parts as an alternative.

Hmm...sounds like an alternative for me.
@Oldblue, as firemangeorge mentioned I am that guy from germany. And since we have to present our car to the local technical supervisory association here in germany you cannot just put any part in the car. The part which you want to install must previously be tested by the "tsa" in my case the test would say permitted axle loads for e.g. the eibach lowering springs. There was a complete tested lowering kit by eibach available for the European-German-Version but unfortunally its discontinued. And there is no chance to buy one due to very little units that were sold here in germany. And eibach decided to not produce these anymore. So one guy from "tsa" told me he will give me permission to use the eibach pro kit from the us. But therefore I need an official information from Eibach california that says something about the permitted axle loads. Anyway thanks for your feedback.
@firemangeorge, can you believe that I have received no feedback yet from Eibach us?!? I was sending them an email last week. I cannot believe that they'll have no information on they own product regarding permitted axle loads to a specific car for their lowering springs.
@skyline26, 1 inch in front and back? I thought the FE5's where only for the SS? and therefore I thought the fe5 springs must be shorter then fe1 or fe3 since the stock version of the ss sits closer to the street.
Can anyone tell me if the Fe5 springs are shorter then the fe1 or fe3?
Thanks and greeetings from Berlin

All I wanted to point out was that the FE5 springs and struts do lower the HHR non SS but only by about an inch.
As for Canucks being legal or not , we'll ask your local authorities.
But the fact remains the FE5 set up will only lower a FE1 or FE3 suspension 1 to 1 1/4 inches
As Skyline26 confirmed.

maybe about an inch all around.
But also the fe5 are a bit harsh on bad roads. Your best bet would be to go full fe3 setup or do a combo of fe3 shocks and fe5 springs.
OR go aftermarket with KYB shocks or Monroe Quick struts which have both shocks and spring together.
I have another question.
Does fe5 rear shocks really fit in the hhr lt? Because when i search parts on gmpartsonline.net for the lt in the front suspension category i can choose fe5 strut and springs but when i look in the rear suspension section for the lt i can only choose fe1 or fe3 shocks plus the springs in the lt section are discontinued?????
So again will fe5 rear shocks fit the lt??
If not will the fe5 spring fit a fe3 rear shock on the lt???
Would be very nice if some member could answer my question. Because once i order stuff from the us and open the package here in germany and realise the parts will not fit than i have a little problem.
So please help me if you can.

The FE5 rear springs will fit the LT
The FE5 rear shocks will fit the LT
The FE5 front springs will fit the LT
The FE5 front struts will fit the LT
Now bare in mind, the company's like Monroe and such will post their parts will fit , however they might not give you the ride height or firm dampening you would get from GM parts.
Also do you need TSA approval , as your HHR doesn't have the FE5 option?

Oldblue, thanks for your quick response. Regarding tsa, i just wouldnt present the car to tsa because the parts i will install are oem gm ones. No one will really find out that fe5s are installed on my hhr. If i install e.g. eibachs and if one is looking under the car and would spot the eibach logo on the springs than ill have a problem because its clear that this is no oem part and than they will ask for tsa papers regarding the eibachs.
Only problem is in case of an accident. If i hurt a person through an accident they'll have an insurance assesor check my car. When they find out its lower than stock and theres no report in the tsa papers my insurance wil not pay one cent. So ill have to pay everything myself.
But i think in such case ill have a good chance to explain the situation since i used oem parts for my hhr. And how should one in germany know the difference between fe1, fe3 or fe5???? Since we only have a couple of these cars on the german steets driving around.
You know what i mean?
