i have a 08 panel with the 2.4 in it and just did the brake upgrade it went easy. its been documented with pics already so i did not take pics. power stop made all the parts i used. i got the calipers and brackets from rockauto they came powder coated already. part #PWR S4906 for $127.58 and minus $50.00 after they get my cores back. cant beat that. i got the drilled and slotted rotors with pads from amazon that came them from jegs. they where part #k1610 for $109.46 then if u open a amazon card you get $30.00 off that. so $79.46 for rotors and pads. i know this is nothing new just thought i would put it out there with some newer pricing and part # for anyone looking to do it. now i want to find a cobalt ss rear

SS rotors on standard HHR-img_0664.jpgA cheeper way to go for the rear disc brakes is to build a caliper bracket and have it welded on. This is what I did on my drum to disc conversion a few years ago. All the stock SS rear brakes parts just bolt on. I used 3/8" steel plate and cut it out on a water jet.

The ABS sensor is in the hub, ensure you use your HHR hubs!

Did mine just over a year ago, bought some cheap rotors off fleabay, but they've been on for over 20,000 miles, about half of that towing my 1000lb trailer with no sign of warping, so I'm fairly pleased with them.

It depends. I swapped the rear axle on my HHR with the rear axle from an '06 2.4 SS Cobalt. It had ABS, so all I had to do was plug my stuff into the sensor from the Cobalt. I've done 2 swaps, and it's a very easy, straight forward swap. RF2's idea works great if you have trouble finding a complete axle assembly and can weld(or a friend that can), but I feel like replacing the axle is just easier. One thing to keep in mind, is you will need the Ebrake cables from the disc car as well.
