tired of clunking and rattleing
Hi,
My name is Dennis I have a HHR which I love. However, I'm getting tired of the clunking that my car makes.
Let me update you In early Sept. I had my sway bar bushings replaced. The noise stopped. Then in late Aug. I had a wheel bearing go bad on the drivers side. So, they had to take the whole wheel off and put it back on you know what I'm talking about. Guess what, the clunking is back. When they took off the wheel assembly could they have stretched the bushing to have play in it. Can sway bar links still be bad if you take your palm and hit the link but no noise or movement occurs.
I look forward to your knowledge of the HHR issues
Thank You,

Sway bar bushings are not sway bar links. Also look into lower control arm bushings.
Give the search a try, this is a well covered subject. There is even a TSB about it https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/prob...g-pop-s-50648/

whats the mileage on the car?
If you did the sway bar bushings, hopefully you put on some greaseable ones...if not get some! makes a huge difference!
Second, try lubing up the end links
Thirdly, try replacing the Upper Strut mounts (ball bearings inside could be shot depending on mileage and condition of suspension)
Thats if we are talking about suspension clunk
BUT where exacltly are you hearing this clunk?? Because it could also be the i-shaft (GM has a design flaw with these and now they have a new design which helps fix this issue..it did for mine....) or could be steering column which mostly Cobalts and some HHRs had

2007 HHR 2lt.
97,000 miles on it.
garage ordered took 1 day I think from the dealer.
Strut mounts replaced in July
noise is on the drivers side when I hit bumps or rough road.
The reason I asked if the bushings could go bad was the suspension was just hanging there.

Sway bar links
I have clunking noise in frt suspension and replace the sway bay links twice in the last 6 months. Lasts about 2 months and the clunking starts to come back -- Used Moog first ones with grease fittings - after making a turn going into a driveway one started getting noisy -- replaced that with off brand without grease fitting and that lasted about 2 months and making noise again.
Whats the best links to use and do you thing bad struts are contributing to this problem.
Owned since new never any problems now at 72,000 starting to experience different failures
