Angry clutch pedal to floor and fluid leak

I have an 06 2.4 LT that i just love and this is the first major problem with it. I drove it this morning with no problems....manual transmission....then my son used it to drive a couple blocks up to the store and when he was trying to leave the parking lot, the clutch pedal went to the floor and he couldn't shift it into 1st gear.....so he called me in a panic and i went to my car and noticed fluid leaking from the inside of the tire area on the drivers side. Could it just be that maybe i've had a line go bad and leak? It was definatley brake/clutch fluid as it was red when i checked it......help!!

Sounds like the line to the clutch slave cylinder let go, you'll need to get it up on a lift to check things out for sure.

Depending on how many miles are on it, you may just want to "Bite the Bullet" and go for a new clutch, slave cylinder, and flywheel resurfacing.

P.S. to the forum, sorry your first post is the worst kind to make...."Help it's Broken".

"Could" be just a line broke. Be careful, the brake fluid reservoir is the same as the clutch fluid; if one has a leak so does the other.

If you have to replace one for the clutch, replace them all. It's better to re-do them all together so you know they will last a bit. I had to re-do mine about 30,000 miles ago. Worth the extra money. Drives like new, and nice stiff pedal.

Wait, brake fluid is red?? I know there is red brake fluid, but it would be unusual. Have you checked the fluid level? If it's fine, look elsewhere, like something broken on the clutch pedal or linkage or master cylinder? The fluid leak could be something else.

if it's red, sounds like transmission fluid....

Thank you for the welcome!! I've had my HHR since 2006 got it brand new. I really can't complain as it is 8 years old and this is really the first "major" thing thats happened. Thank you all for the great advice and I will be passing these on to the hubby so he can further check on it. I will definetely be keeping you all informed on what the diagnosis and prognosis is when I find out.

By the way....I love this site you all are very informativeand helpful, thank you so much!!
