My 2006 HHR has 228,000 miles on the clock. It still runs great, and I really like the car, but the trans is starting to give up. Question is, what other year, HHR, or any other GM car's transmissions will interchange ? And will the engine size matter. I'm going on the hunt for a trans, from the local DIY salvage yards. It's a 4T45E.

 

You answered your own question mostly. Any year HHR. However; what does "starting to give up" mean? The 4t45E is fairly bullet proof.

 

It is usually does ok when cold, but after warmed up, when put in drive, from park or reverse, there is a delay going into low, and some times I have to feather the throttle to get it to engage low gear. From searching these symptoms, it seams the low roller clutch may be starting to fail. I thought about getting another trans, and rebuilding it, then just swap out. Never done a 4T45E before, but the schematics I've been looking at doesn't look too bad. No worse than a 700 R4, and I've did a few of them.

 

Maybe check the fluid level, and condition.

 

i,v changed all years up and down 2.2 or 2.4 all work , as far as auto matics go , , good luck dave and iv done a lot !
