Traction control
Our 1st ice slush snow day.
I was a little suprised when it went into T.C. Don't know if I like it. Do u guys turn it off or leave it on? thanks |
I keep it punched off unless the roads get iffy, down here icy conditions are rare in winter for the most part, but the highways can get slick on even mildly rainy days.

I turn it off, it slows you down especially when your taking off from a complete stop on snow/ice. Around here it's actually dangerous cause most everyone get's going while your waiting for trac control..Of course I been driving thru Buffalo winters for 40 years, most of those with RWD so experience is a factor..

I prefer the wheel spin over the TC in Buffalo, though admittedly I haven't driven the SS in much more than a little slush. TC always bugs me, having the car think for you. I have a stick as well, I like the control...
Where in upstate? JIm |
My last car had traction control and I was living in upstae NY then. I found it pretty useless as I had learned to drive without that feature. My 06 HHR, TC was an option and not on my car. Living in Florida, no snow and I still drive with a light foot. Anti lock brakes and TC appear to give overconfidence for drivers and they seem to take less care when on the road.

Nord of Watertown on the Can. border.
Took it out on the back road the other day and the TC didn't seem as queer as the first day. It seemed to shut the engine down the first day.? thanks |
TC slows you down driving on ice? B S
33 years driving in Minnesota (half of that drove RWD), TC works just fine. Our last 4 cars have had it, and I wouldn't have one without these days. |
I love my traction control on flat surfaces, but any grade up, I hate it. It takes away any momentum you might need to get up the incline, away.

Wishing I could turn it off on my 2006 - someone once posted something about pulling up on the parking brake just enough to trigger the parking light (but not enough to put pressure on the rear brakes) would turn off the TC, so will try that this winter. |
