Traction Control Light on

Hello everyone, recently I've been getting the 'Traction Control Light' to come on and he creates violent shifts ('06 HHR LT 2.4L). Once I get to my destination and start it back up, the light disappears. Does anyone have a good thread I could use or some sort of advice that I could use?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Whopper posted a step by step guide with pics. following the thread it seems that this is the true fix. I have the same problem and plan on executing this next weekend.

Thanks Harmro, I hope replacing these 2 items will fix this issue. I haven't had a Check Engine Light as of yet. Thanks again for the link. I found the parts at 'http://www.newgmparts.com'. I might call AutoZone just to double check pricing. The fix doesn't seem that hard.

Thanks again!

Tubejock,
Did replacing the items (camshaft position .....valve) that harmro suggested fix the problem with the T/C light coming on?

If you are asking because you have a similar issues... The traction control light comes on if the computer stores a pending code... I recently learned this when fiddling with a cold air intake. Doesnt necessarily mean its the Camshaft solenoids... You either have to have the pending codes read or wait until you get a check engine light. Has to do with a limp home safety mode.... Models with T/C disable T/C if any codes are present.

I do have the exact same issue.
T/C comes on (only) typically after 30 or more minutes of driving, shifting gets "clunky",, and problem goes away if vehicle is turned off for some time..... at least over night but may be less -I've heard 5 minutes.
Some solutions I have seen are disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes (guess it resets all the gliches and is part of that camshaft procedure), to transmission overhaul, etc..

Might do the battery first since I do need a new one anyway..

Any advise gratefully accepted.

If your battery is on the way out, then that could be the cause of your T/C issues.

You should have the codes pulled 1st before doing the battery disconnect/reset.
The disconnect will clear the codes.
All trouble codes detected will not always set off the Check Engine Light (CEL)
Some just get stored by the computer.

X2 what the advisors stated above. Check for codes first, then try the battery disconnect. the battery disconnect has nothing to do with the "camshaft procedure" - all it does is clear the error code and does a "reboot" to the cars computer (in simplistic terms).

Forget about replacing those camshaft solenoids unless you actually get a CEL code that indicates that they are actually the problem.

The hard shifting and T/C light are the result of various error conditions that are detected (not just the camshaft solenoids).
