I have a 2007 HHR I got it about 6 months ago and it has 170,000 on it..the transmission acts fine I don't know if the fluid and or filter have been changed.. should I change it or wait til it gives me problems ..the car is in perfect condition and appears that whoever had it took really good care of it..I kinda think if it's not broke dont fix it..should I go ahead and change fluid and filter or leave well enough alone? Also my first maintainence free tranny

It's totally up to you. The Owners Manual for a 2007 (on page 398) states (note last sentence):

"(h) Change automatic transaxle fluid and filter if
the vehicle is mainly driven under one or more of
these conditions:
− In heavy city traffic where the outside
temperature regularly reaches 90°F (32°C) or
higher.
− In hilly or mountainous terrain.
− When doing frequent trailer towing.
− Uses such as found in taxi, police, or delivery
service.
If you do not use your vehicle under any of these
conditions, the fluid and filter do not require
changing."

That being said, it shouldn't hurt - be aware that it will be expensive as the tranny fluid is pretty pricey.

PS: and welcome to the forum here - you can also give the SEARCH TOOL at the top of the page a try out - ie: tranny fluid change, will probably give lots of good discussions about it.

Welcome to the site! If it makes you feel more comfortable, change the fluid, but it's not really a necessity!
