Transmission Bearing Noise.

2008 HHR SS 5 speed trans. Have a bearing noise on left side where axle shaft enters. There is a removable part held on by 5 torx screws. I'm hoping it holds a bearing. I know it's a Subaru trans but where do you get parts? And how much trouble is there to replace it? Thanks, Bob.

Not a Subaru trans. The SS has a Saab trans.

I think the cover unscrews and you can change the output bearing in the F35 Saab gear box

Subaru might use the same gearbox. More likely Daewoo.

I do know that the plastic inspection cover on the trans has “Saab” stamped on the inside of it.

I meant Daewoo would more likely use the Saab trans than Subaru, since GM has a big stake in Daewoo. Like Opel or Vauxhall, not officially GM brands just major owner.

Hi, I'm Bob with the noisy trans. The best option was to buy new. GM #55563726 was the PN for an open version not the limited slip which was $1600.00 more. When the dealer went by the vin number it said that trans was wrong. Because the car was built with limited slip. It came with everything except one switch that I swapped out. New throw out bearing and speed sensor switch. It was just an R&R job. Shifting is still stiff but trans seems great. It seems like the open differential is easier to drive, even when at full boost. Quiet with a little gear noise, to be expected. Yes this trans is an exact replacement for the original one.

That part number seems to be the F3 Getrag.Opel vs the F23 Saab. They are physically interchangeable, most reports say Getrag is the better. Most SS came from the factory with F23 Saab.
I am guessing based on it "fits all" and is the only one currently listed for HHR 2008-2011. I didn't look very hard.

GM parts direct says fits my 2009 SS, does not fit 2007 LS. So looks like you got the right one. Glad it's fixed, Bob!
