Gas Mileage

By oldlar at 2011-10-23
I drove down to the Florida Keys and back to Florida City to fillup, this weekend and got 34.1 mpg. About 200 miles of the Florida Turnpike at 65-70 mph and 250 miles on the Overseas HIghway 45-55 mph. My HHR really like the 45-55 mph for mpg.
The photo was taken at Alabama Jack's restaurany/bar.
i wasnt gonna read all the pages in the post.....so sorry if i repeat a bunch of stuff posted. i had similar mileage ~23 on average. the only way i got it closer to 28-29 with my 2.4l was to avoid jack rabbit starts(the hard part) and to coast to every red light. coasting is a big contributor to good mileage and will extend your brake pads/rotors life.
oh and i have a 50/50 mix of city driving and highway(40+mph). i also seem to have the best mileage at 40-45 mph. ive actually changed my route to work to gain mileage. i extended my trip about 1.1 miles and gained nearly 3 mpgs.
i also went as far as counting red lights and average number of stops in my trips to/from work. its seems like a lot but i gained 5-6 mpgs by altering my habits and finding the most fuel efficient way to work.

Trips back and forth across the bay bridge (De and MD) get me 31 to 34 mpg trips,,plenty of red lights and mixed driving....about half small road and half 2 or more lane...its all in the right foot
Hey there Snoopy :)
From my experience, and from info in the owners manual of the 2006, the average mpg is cummulative from the time the display was last reset. The longer time between resets will result in a more accurate reading.
From the 2006 owners manual - info on the gas mileage display on DIC (page 3-24):
"Press the information button until ECON is displayed.
This mode shows how many miles per gallon (mpg)
or liters per 100 kilometers (L/100 km) your vehicle is
getting based on current and past driving conditions.
Press and hold the reset button while ECON is displayed
to reset the average fuel economy. Average fuel
economy will then be calculated starting from that point.
If the average fuel economy is not reset, it will be
continually updated each time you drive."
startron
Anyone ever try a product called startron?
I have been using this for a few years ever since the ethanol garbage gas came out.since the ethanol attracts moisture like a magnet i started using this on my old cars then our daily drivers I mainly use it to combat the bad effects of.ethanol on the fuel systems of the older cars but.we normally due see a 1 to 2 mpg difference.
I will be using it in my new to me hhr soon hope to see an improvement.

Equipment for liquefied gas (LPG autogas) is installed in my car.
My milage 23 mpg avg. ( on autogas to gasoline basis)
(1 gallon of gasoline - 2.6 $, 1 gallon of lpg autogas - 1,7 $)
Payback in my country is about 6250 - 7000 miles.
Mileage per a year is 9300 - 11,000 miles, this is average value taking into account the history of 4 cars I had.
