Thanks for the answer.
I'll check them this afternoon.

And thanks for the caution. Although I knew that I had forgotten about how those plugs break. Now if I can just get the plugs out without wiping the threads on the head or breaking a plug wire I'll be golden.

Strickly in town driving will really lower your mileage. Stop and go driving is the culprit.
I think some of the previous "high" numbers quoted for in town stuff were probably a combination of both.

Yesterday I got out my little black gas log book and crunched the mileage numbers for my SS.
45,000 miles====== 27.57 mpgs.

Not much in town driving with mine. I hate to go into "town".

I finally have mileage to report.
I picked up my '09 2LT a few weeks ago and finally got a run on the highway yesterday.
I have a round trip to work of 9.2 miles and got 22 MPG.
Out on the highway I got 32 MPG.
This was with mixed 87-89 octane fuel , and I always drive pretty conservatively.
I'll try some 91 octane soon and give some results.

Over the last 14 days of driving to and from hospital 2,000 kilometres or 1,243 miles
An average of 7.0 litres per 100 kilometres which works out to 1.84 US gallons per 62.13 miles or 33.76 miles per US gallon

I drove from FL to Indiana to a job and back this month- about 3000 miles in 2 weeks. My trip computer said 30.6 mpg when I pulled into the driveway at home. MY 2009 HHR LS has 56,000 miles on it. This sounds really good, but my full size 2014 Dodge Caravan got 28mpg on a vacation trip to Maine and back this summer with the A/C all the way. Very little A/C was needed in October.
In town mileage with the HHR is closer to 24- the Caravan does about the same.

Christmas Day, I drove my newly acquired (on Dec 12th) 1LT 2.2L on a 248 mile round trip to see mom. Filled up before I left, and when I got back, 2nd fill-up was 7.042 gal, for an average of 35.2MPG with the A/C running about half the time.

Back & forth to work (3.8miles there & 3.8 or 5.2miles back depending which way I go) with A/C running all the time, my first re-fill was 10.662 gal with 235 miles driven for 22MPG.

That's also pushing it hard till I reach speed limit then set CC, so I could probably do closer to 24 to work & back if I were to treat it gently...

MPH for 43078 miles

I started keeping record of my gas usage back when you could deduct the gas tax on you income tax. I still do it, why I am not sure.
Today I sat down and calculated my mph for my 2011 HHR. I bought it in Oct. of 2012. It had been an Enterprise rental (altho I bought it from a Toyota dealer. It had 31006 miles on it. Immediately after picking it up, I filled the gas tank. It has the 2.4l motor. Yesterday when I filled the tank the mileage was 74084. In that time I put in1694 gallons of regular gas. The average worked out to 25.43 mph. Much of our driving is local, but we did make 6 trips to Welland, ON to visit our son (about 325 miles each way). also one trip to Myrtle Beach (about 550 miles each way).

All in all, we are quite happy with our HHR.
