My 09, 2.2 ecoTec automatic averages 26.7 mpg mixed driving with standard grade BP. To satisify a curiousity, I have used PB Gold/Premium/Ethyl or whatever one wants to call it for the last two fill ups.The fuel milage according to the HHr and pocket calculator improved by 2+ miles per gallon.

I have owned both a Vibe and currently an HHR. My Vibe was totaled in an accident and I bought the HHR with the insurance money. For two cars that are so similar they are quite different.

I bought my 04 Vibe brand new from the dealer (my first new car). It was extremely reliable, and very fuel efficient. I consistently achived 30+mpg driving a mix of highway and city. I drive 300-500 miles a week average. Never had to put a penny into the Vibe other than tires, brakes, fluids, and filters. Had 103,000 miles on it when I was rear ended. Hated to see it go.

I bought my 07 HHR from a dealer only auction, 32,000 miles lease turn in. I now have 95,000 miles on the HHR. The HHR consistently gets 25-28 mpg driving the exact same roads and conditions that I frove the Vibe in. The HHR has had many front suspension issues. I have replaced both struts, sway bar end links, lower control arm bushings, replaced one of the half shafts, and multiple sets of rotors to name a few. The HHR is much roomier inside, and definitely has more power, but is also heavier and thus less efficient. The fact that the Vibe is mostly Toyota parts and made in California made it more attractive to me and in my mind is the reason it was so reliable.

If you prefer performance and space the HHR is a better car, if a little less room is not an issue and fuel economy is more important then I would go with the Vibe. Just my 2 cents worth.

was looking at both the vibe,and hhr.From all i read the vibe is a little better gas mileage .I am taking over my daughters 2007 hhr LT.To get a vibe for what im paying for the hhr,i had to probably get a 05 model.

Im using it to replace my 2000 jeep grand cherokee,mainly because of fuel ef.The jeep will have to go up for sale,and the hatch back is what i need ,Her hrr is in exccellent condition .

as far as those front end bushings our 2007 cobalt had same problems,but in the 6 years we have owned the cobalt,and put on 80000 miles,we have put very few dollars in it.Outside of tires,maybe $300-500 total for 6 years.

will see how the hhr does,got to be 8to 10 miles a gallon better than my jeep

I average 27-28 on each tank for my local driving.

I just got back and haven't checked the return trip but going up from Roanoke, VA on I-81 to 30 across through Gettysburg to York Pa. Running around 70 most of the way on 81 I got 33.8 mpg when I checked it in york. I didn't get as good comming back due to rain and traffic. Constantly speeding up and down. One time the rain was so heavy we slowed down to about 25. I couldn't pull over as I was trapped in the left lane. But the HHR did great the whole trip.

I have a 2006 LT with the 2.4 and Automatic. I have never averaged better then 25 MPG. I made several round trips to Las Vegas last year. Ran it in cruise and never went over 75 M.P.H. and managed 25.3. Not too bad considering the speed and lots of long up hill grades but these cars are heavy for their size and are about as aerodynamic as a pile of bricks.

On my 2011 as of today with summer gas I am up to 28.6 mpg, I also have new goodyears on as of the other day, But Im sure since we are now using summer blend gas up north it is the gas than helps the MPG.. Winter blend loses about 10%
