I would go insane, if I was ever in a car going that slow on a trip like that! When I go on long trips (or any trips for that matter), I don't concern myself with MPGs. My only concern is how long it takes me to get where I'm going. I have hardly ever seen 30MPG out of my HHR. I usually average around 19-22MPG with about a 50/50 split of city & highway driving |
We have had our 2011 LT with the 2.4 engine for about a year. I record all my gas fill-ups. I had about 14000 miles on it. Dividing the miles by the number of gallons of gas resulted in an average of 24.9 MPG. My previous car a 2004 PT Cruiser with the "turbo-lite" engine gave me about 22.4. I am happy with my mileage.

But I love watching the speedsters fly by, then jam on their brakes as a tractor trailer is in the left lane trying to pass another tractor trailer in the right lane and the long line of cars behind the tractor trailer. They also are the first in line for the speed traps when the traffic finally gets past. |
Checked it the old fashioned way after a 300+ mile run yesterday.
Topped off with 9.23 gallons of Shell V-Power Travelled 317 miles Pencil and paper Mpg 34.3 DIC was indicating an average of 33.9 |
We live close to the Canadian border (Blaine Wa) and often travel 10 miles to White Rock BC to pick up our grandson, but it can take 2 hours or more to travel the 10 miles, when the border gets real busy. Point is, the HHR sits there idleing the whole time, however we still get 26-28 mpg consistently. Must not use a lot of petrol while sittin there. Other than that, most of our driving is freeway as we live 10 miles from the nearest large town (Blaine is tiny) so its a combination of hwy and city, mostly hwy.

looks like a tiny piece of paper.. underneath the cruise control bottons.. (3rd from the top) the very bottom button also resets information if held in.. trip mileage A and B, instant fuel economy, and average speed.

I get 34 mpg..someone told me to press the gas as though there is an eggshell underneath. It works
