17" Painted Wheels - not available

I have had my Sandstone HHR LT2 on order at the dealer for 4 weeks and the factory has not yet accepted the order. I finally called the Zone office - Marketing Dept - 800.950.2438 - they investigated and informed me that the HHR is selling faster than GM expected and the manufacturer of the wheels is unable to meet the demand and will not be up to speed for another 4 weeks.
I then called the dealer and requested to cancel the order - they offered to upgrade the car to the 17" high polished wheels and not charge me for it - I raced over to the dealership and had him sign that off on my order (Judge Judy says get it in writing) and the order is now accepted at the factory.

Good deal bro, you'll like the 17 inch polished wheels. They almost make me feel bad about thinking of replacing them with chrome 18 inch wheels.

Good move... Congrads. This is a once in a lifetime event.

GM doesn't want to loose a sale, do they?

Cool, there's a bonus! I thought it was the polished rims that they couldn't keep up with at first but now it must be the painted ones.

No, I'm sure there is more than enough of those. 2LTs come standard with 17" painted rims that can be upgraded to 17" polished rims. Which in this case they did for free so they didn't lose a sale.

I ordered my 2LT with the 17" std. painted wheels in Nov. and had a 2-1/2 week "constraint" hold because of availability.

The two choices are pretty much identical, except for the finish. If you get a "curb rash" on the polished, you're pretty much done, and a replacement is big $$$ from GM. From many years experience, repairing a painted and clearcoated wheel is very doable.

And, for a minor finish difference, I really believe that GM doesn't want to sell the standard 17's. At $395.00 I'd bet the profit margin is nice for GM!!
