2.2 or 2.4

In 2011 the LT had 2 engines available, 2.2 and 2.4. How do I tell which engine is in the HHR I,m about to buy? Can I tell from the VIN? Someone told me the valve covers are different.

Nope, I have the 2.4 and no fog lights, as it is an LT1 model.

However, I do believe the polished tip to be a good indicator. Otherwise open the hood and the catalyst system sticker states the engine.
