2.4 Liter Gas

There was a thread a while ago where some people were talking about needing to use premium gas with a 2.4 Liter. I was wondering if people with a 2.4 Liter could update as to whether or not they are using premium gas. Also, what does the manual recommend?
Thanks!

I have the 2.4 and use 93 octane. I believe the manual suggested 91 but said it was OK to run on regular sometimes but you would lose power and increase the chance of hearing knocking and pinging.

Thanks Captain. My guess is that a 2.4 on regular is probably about the same performance as the 2.2, then. Does that probably sound about right?

I think acceleration is mainly affected in terms of the power loss but I'm not sure because I have put nothing but 93 in from the time of purchase. I know some other members have tried regular in the 2.4.

I use 93 in mine, but the funny thing is that the dealership just puts 87 in it to fill it up. They are either cheap or just didn't read the HHR manual.

LOL, they are cheap AND they did not read the manual! It does call for 91 OR higher, I choose to spend the extra money for my beautiful ride! Being that it is new and we really don't know the long term outcome of putting cheap gas in it, but think about this, do u smoke generic cigs, or eat generic food, or buy generic clothing? I have to say NOT ME! Gotta have the good stuff, LOL!

teknobunie,
LOL.
I'm pretty much the opposite. I usually buy the cheap stuff unless the name-brand stuff is the same price. That's why I'm asking what people are doing. The more I think about it, the more I think I will probably stick with the 2.2.
To each his/her own.

I've used regular for the first 3000 miles and now using 93 the last couple of fill-ups to compare now that gas prices have come down. I cannot tell that much of a difference, except slightly quicker acceleration. The mileage is about the same. I will switch back to regular as there is no obvious or overwhelming benefit to premium.
