O2 Sensors should be changed every 60,000 even if the CEL light is not on-just old school rule of thumb.

If the o2 sensors need replacing so often, why aren't they common maintenance items? My Lumina is still running good with the factory originals...

Tips on getting to the upstream o2 sensor? I believe I see it but getting to it i'm not sure.

Put the car on jack stands
Disconnect the o2 sensor connector
Take the old sensor out
Reverse steps for installation of the new sensor
Easy

The hardest part will be getting the old sensor out with 97,000 miles.

o2 sensors are like any other sensor out there..some last a wek, others last forever...and agree on the regular changing, my peekup definitly likes new sensors, always shows up in the milage..also the fact that my header is close to the firewall and in extreme cases the sensor hits it and chomps the wire....

Took it to the shop and it had the P0301 code in history as well as a P1174 Fuel Trim code. They said the new plugs might have caused this code to be thrown so they just reset it and sent me on my way. Now about 60 miles later the check engine light is back on, haven't had it checked this time. I've seen write ups about the fuel injectors but also read about o2 sensors. They said they coudn't find anything wrong but there is clearly a problem somewhere.
