2009 LS Panel TPMS problem

OK, here is a head scratcher.

At 72000 miles my TPMS light came on with the meaasge 'service TPMS'.

Going thru the menu it showed LR tire with no pressure just -- on the screen.

Of course the tire had 35 psi.

When I had it serviced I had the tires rotated (did not replace the TPMS). Well it seems even after tire rotation the TPMS still shows LR. I have to assume the shop recalbrated the TPMS when moving the tires.

Anyway, intermitterly it still shows LR, BUT the kicker is sometimes the screen shows pressure in the LR even when the light is on, crazy.

Anyone else see this issue or have a thought how to diagnose it?

Thanks

You really need to confirm they are calibrated correctly first to confirm it really is the LR tire being highlighted (since you are assuming the shop did the calibration, and that they actually did the tire rotation!!). The instructions are covered in your owners manual.

Once that is done, replacing the tpm in that tire would be your next step. Being the car is now 9 years old, all the modules are likely due for replacement unless they have been changed since then.

2009 you can reset the positions yourself using the directions in your Owner Manual. Page 5-66, online manual via the link in my sig.

If you have been AssUMeing the tire store has been doing it for the last 9 years, there is no telling which one it really is.

TPMS issue

donbrew, whopper,

Thanks for the response. I did read the owners manual and watched youtube on how to reset them.

When I get a chance I will reset them myself to see if it changes anything, but the real question is, why would the light stay on (the little tire symbol) when the menue shows pressure in the LR when usually when the light is on the menu shows those two lines -- indicating no pressure. I would think if the light is on the menu should always show the two lines.

By the way when the light first comes on it blinks then goes to steady on.

Welcome to the site, your 2009 TPMS battery is probably just about done, so it may get be time for new sensors, 315 MHz
I just had them replaced in my nieces 2009 Dodge Journey, which negates that saying “The Journey is the Joy!” , trust me this one isn’t.

That is exactly what happened on my 2008. Same tire, even. Figured the batteries were 10 years old, time to replace. Got new ones off Amazon, got 'em installed and reprogrammed, problem solved.

Thanks for the message. I will do just that, replace batts.

omniglhs 02-21-2018 08:19 PM

You have to replace the whole enchilada, not just the batteries.
The way I saw it, if one went, the others were soon to follow so I did 'em all.
From Amazon: ACDelco 13598771 GM Original Equipment Tire Pressure Sensor TPMS Set of Four (4) Price: $71.99 & FREE Shipping
Of course, they then have to be installed...

mercury2005 02-21-2018 08:23 PM

Thanks, I will get them and install.

Which means best to do it when you get new tires. The tires have to be unmounted to change them.
