2010 Road trip

Me and the wife are planning a road trip for our honeymoon/1st anniversery around Aug-Octish some time. Its going to be quite the trip, we are planning to drive to Miami Fl, 6000 miles round trip roughly. Just wondering if there would be any intresting stops between Elko NV and Miami.

As of right now we are planning on traveling I-80 till around Lincoln NE and down through St. Louis MO, Nashville TN, Alanta GA, Orlando and then to Miami for 2 days.

Our Return trip looks to be Miami into Mobile AL area, then to Dallas TX, Santa Fe NM, up to the four corners area and to Orem UT visit with her family and then on home to Elko.

In all its roughly 11 days with a 12th to recoupe from the long drive. I figure driving about 10 hrs a day we make it there in 4 days, 2 days in Miami and then 5 days back with the stop at her parents. I love road trips she loves the beaches and never been on a road trip, so should be a win win we'll see. So any suggestion of places to see or do let me know, or maybe a quick meet up just to say hi.

On your way back, if you're taking I-30 to Dallas, Tx you'll pass right through the city I live in on the AR/TX border

I hear that the Corvette Museum/Tour in Bowling Green is pretty nice! (yes--I know--it not an HHR!)...

Since you will be in and around the SLC area there is a lot to see and do around there. Same goes for the general 4 corners area (where I live) and Santa Fe, NM. Pretty much anywhere you go in the Western US will have things you may want to see. Try a search on the internet to find those things you might like.

I don't know if you can make Miami in 2 days. That's 2800 miles. It took me 24 hours to make that drive from Dallas.

I'd plan on doing about 600 miles a day if you want to stay sane. That's a leisurely 10 hours with stops for pictures and food and traffic.

I'd plan on 600-700 miles per day unless two drivers sharing the driving job., then you may be able to do lots more. A 6000 mile round trip in 11 days is averging 550 miles per day. Atlanta during any rush hour can be "hectic". Nashville has the Grand Old Oprey if you are interested in country music. There is the Jack Daniel's distillery in Lynchburg, Tn a few miles off the beaten path of I-24.

I-4 in Florida can be a nightmare near Orlando around rush hour. 70 mph speed limit is only suggested, as lots of drivers are lots faster. The Florida turnpike is pricey and there are lots of toll roads around Orlando. I-95 around Miami is also very congested with the worst drivers in the state seem to be prolific.

I hope you have a GPS to find your way around, its a long trip with many turns on unfamiliar roads.

Have fun.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. It will take us 4 days to get there, 2 days in Miami, and then 5 days back. Travelling roughly 10 hrs a day some days a little more, and some a little less. Luckily I do have gps otherwise I wouldnt even attemt this as I have a horrible sense of direction, its been a lifesaver more than once already.
