Here's an interesting take on it. Go to the top of a long hill, turn off the engine (but leave on the DIC) and roll down the hill. In this case, your gas milage should be calculated as infinite. Actually it would be a divide by zero math error:

x.x miles / 0 gallons

This won't work for a couple of reasons:

1) The DIC only calculates mileage when the engine is turning over (it also measures engine rpm & throttle position)

2) The max reading for mpg is 99.9

Also, the steering in the HHR is controlled electrically - so I wouldn't recommend shutting the key off ever while the car is in motion!
