ABS light

I have a 2009 LT2 with 136,000 miles. Previous owner replaced the front struts. I now have an ABS light intermittently with code C0035. GM says I need to replace the "left front speed sensor hub bearing with jumper harness" Quoted price is 782.00 labor and parts. I would like to know if the sensor only can be replaced and also where I might be able to purchase the parts and do this job myself. All comments are welcome. This my second HHR, the first was a 2007 that was stolen and wrecked (totaled).

The wheel speed sensor is integral to the hub.

Pretty much any Auto Parts store will carry replacement hubs - be sure to ask for one for an ABS car. and yeah they aren't that difficult to replace - maybe an hour if one takes their time.

check this thread for a diagram how they are put together. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/main...el-hubs-60437/

$50 +/- depending who and what you source for parts. Did mine with no problems as a weekend mechanic.

If it was me, I would unplug the connector and put some dielectric GREASE in it. See if that fixes it.

C0035 means the CIRCUIT is faulty; that might be because the sensor has shorted, but since the struts were replaced the connector is suspect.

There should be 2 digits after the coo35, those would narrow it down a bit. Since this is a GM dealership they should have included that information.

DO NOT buy a hub from GM; $300 each is way too much money. Even places like Firestone only charge about $200 for the part. You can get them for $30 if look online.

$782 is robbery. I've done these before,as said it's not terribly difficult. The hard part is that the metals corrode where the hub mounts and often they have to be pounded loose. I'm to the point where I'm sore for two days when I do this kind of stuff. I had a hub changed on mine a few months ago by a trusted local small shop. $305. It was worth it to save a couple of days of pain.

GM's MSRP for 1 hub is $304. It used to be $632 each. Moog brand at AutoZone is $184. Quick search on eBay found $54 for a pair unbranded. My belief is they are made in the same Chinese factory.

Flat rate labor is 1.8 hours for both.

Rock Auto will vary in price because they usually have several brands available at the same time. You can look yourself but for my '06 there are over 40 available ranging in price from $36.99 to $162.79
