Ahhh!!! Gum!

ARRRRRGH!!! I've kept this car basically spotless and near-showroom new looking since getting it in early June of '07. I just a short while ago went into the front seat through the passenger door to see a big wad of chewing gum mashed into the carpet on the middle console thing. I have that very light grey carpet...what do I do to safely get this gum out without tearing out carpet fibers, creating a worse stain, melting the acrylic, etc?

Help!!!!

You might try a piece of ice to get it hard Then pull it off gently I,ve done it on the living room carprt and it worked

I'd hate to try this, or be responsible for the idea if it doesn't work, but I've often heard hairspray works.

if all else fails, I've seen it trimmed out with small scissors, and if a slight "low" or "bald" spot appears, trim carpet from a hidden place, and using a small amount of spray adhesive on your fingertip, "patch" the balding spot.

ice sounds like the best option over-all.

I've read various things on the web about this, and I'll try freezing it, but I'm scared spitless about working in hairspray, Goo Gone, peanut butter, etc. into carpet/upholstery that gets stained by water! I used to work at a movie theater, and in the janitorial supplies area they had these little cans that sprayed out freezing cold mist to remove gum. Wish I had some of those now! I'd go to a janitorial supply place to get one or more, but I've looked around my area for 'em before when we ran out from our supplier, and no one local carries them for cash and carry type sales!

If you have a can of air for your computer, try that. It'll freeze it making it easier to remove (I think.......hell, I get frost on mykeyboard when I use it)

This method works. Two kids here so my wife is an expert on this stuff. A product called GooBeGone also works but I believe it has Naptha in it so it may discolor the carpet. Try the freeze method first.
