Alarm Issue
Alarm Issue
The other day, I was walking out of school into the parking lot, and I noticed that my HHR wasn't unlocking with the keyless entry. I tried it a few more times, and still nothing happened. Wouldn't even lock or remote start. So it took me a minute to realize that I could unlock the driver's door with the key (I forgot it had a key hole since a lot of cars actually don't anymore), and the alarm started going off. Why would it do this? Anyway, I got home and went inside to get the other key fob to try that one. That one worked. So I'm guessing my battery just died in the first one... but I still think it's akward that the alarm would go off when you try unlocking the car with the key... the 1995 way.
But it's not like you're trying to open the door with the wrong key... The security system should be a little more advanced than that... What if you happened to lose both key fobs and had to do it the old-fashioned way all the time?
On my mother's VUE if you don't unlock the car the same way you locked it the last time the alarm will start going off. Seeing that the HHR is another GM product I assume the same thing is happening (read the manual).
My colorado did the same thing. There is one particular place i go to lunch at alot and 9 times out of 10 it doesn't lock in their parking lot, i'm guessing an interference with the remote and if i do get it to lock (after 10 or so pushes of the button) and it won't unlock with the remote, which happens alot, the alarm will go off if i use the key. It's annoying so most of the time i leave it unlocked. I don't like to but i also hate looking like the idiot who doesn't know how to use her alarm.

Well, the car thinks it's being broken into. So the alarm is going to go off. It doesn't matter whether or not you use the actual key or not. The key is not going to register until you start the engine. It's done that way on purpose. Majority of car alarms are like that.
What kind of alarm did you have installed in the HHR? I'm debating installing one in my HHR. We had a viper with remote start installed at Best Buy on my 05 Burb, but there are some bugs that still need to be fixed.
The anti-theft chip in the key needs to be bypassed with an adapter. So now we have the lock light on our dashboard on the Burb. Everything works just that light can be annoying. I'm wondering with the HHR being so new that the aftermarket alarms out there also will have bugs...
