Electric power steering is catching on with the street rod community, it should stay...if the factory unit won't work, there's aftermarket.

Come on, start cutting!

If it weren't my Daily driver I would have started a long time ago. I also have to either finish my camaro or sell it. I don-t foresee either happening very soon. I have the aforementioned engine, that was going into the camaro but may change my mind, pending I find some reasonable solutions to my problems. I can make it to where this isn't my DD and start cutting, but would like to firm up some of my worries first.

In due time. Anybody have a blown up pic of an IRS off of a solstice?

Option two is to weld a brace across the back in the cab. Moving the shock towers inward, and welding mounts for a control arm in front of the rear tires. Basically converting the rear of the HHR to a 4th gen f-body.

i think a front clip and v6 from an s10 would be a good place to start. square tubing frame and do the rear like im doing on mine. if you look a pics of where the axle is in mine now the driveshaft tunnel would be massive.

Electris steering also catching on with the home-made electric conversion community. It sure beats setting up an unneeded hydraulic system just for steering.

From what I remember from the tv show, both v8 hhrs used previous generation camaro parts. Basically cut out the bottom and sit the hhr body on the chassis, probably get a custom driveshaft to match the wheelbase.

The point of the conversion for me is not to have a V8 but to have a sleeper. I have an engine for the swap I would like to use.

The idea "garage built" is using is about the same ideas as I was thinking. Doing a brace across the rear section and mounting the rear end much like a 4th gen f-body is. The rear is only held on by 3 positions, shocks, rear LCA's, and a torque arm. All which can be fabricated and tabs welded for provisions. I have a good idea of the way I would go as far as the RWD part, but as mentioned am more concerned on where to add a radiator, because my engine is just SLIGHTLY longer than the 5cylinder and the LSx engines.

The biggest trouble I see coming from this would be the BCM stuff. I plan to keep ALL of my accessories, leaving no indication of what is beneath and ot have all of my good stuff.

if you had to cut the rear floor pan out to put the rwd in you could raise the floor and run the radiator under there with elec. fans like they do on offroad trucks. and probably get the stock plastic back in the trunk.
