Buy a Helms. The Haynes books are good for changing oil and plugs and that is about it.

The Helms are a little more but you could rebuilt the entire car with them in clear step by step info. This is what GM uses.

+1. Helms: worth every penny. I've had a factory book for almost every car I've had that was worth anything. Even if you take the car to an independent shop for non DIY stuff, they're happy to have it available.

They sell direct. I warn it is not cheap but it is the bible for the HHR.

Yeah $150 for the service manual. That is the same link that the chevy dealer sent me. Just wish there was a cheaper alternative.
