Auto Trans. Shift Position Display Lamp ??

This may have been discussed somewhere before but I can't find it.

Whats with the crappy lamp that displays the shift position with an automatic transmission ??

Wife can't see a thing when looking down during day time Hrs. to make sure what gear she's in.

Anybody know If there is a fix for this issue ??

big sun capitol of western washington. I'm envious. It does have a light in it, but your eyes are way off the road to check that way.

Well .. I just went out and drove it, so I checked it out a little further.

1. I does have a light but only when you turn on the headlights.

That takes care of driving at night.

2. The main reason is is so hard to see during the day is 2 fold.

a. There is no light on.

b. This 1LT has the leather wrap at the shift lever base area and it is bulky to allow the lever to move freely.
This makes for a shadow darkening condition so the position markers are so dark that you cannot read them.

Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

Yeh ... we live right in the middle of the Blue Hole.

I see you hit the XXX in Issaquah.

We used to call it the "BARRELL" when I was going there in the 1950's.

That was when the Most Popular One was on Rainier Ave. by Franklin High School in Seattle where I graduated in 1953.

I had a Brand New 56 Chevy 2 dr. hardtop among many other great cars.

A 1940 Chevy Master Deluxe Coupe, Original Jet Black Paint and 12,000 miles.
When I bought it it had been stored by the Original owner.

A 1953 Chevy 2 dr. Coupe... Chopped, Frenched, Leaded, Etc.
7 coats Black Laquer and a Beautiful Black and White interior done by Ballard Upholstery.

The big deal then was to Drag Race thru the Mt. Baker Tunnels at midnight.
The tunnels were separated east and west bound and 2 lanes each way.
Perfect for a good Drag Race.
The Cops new what was going on but very seldom got their timing right.

First car out the other end was the Winner. There was a observation parking area at the other end so all the lookie lews could watch the winner come out of the tunnel flying.
It was about a quarter mile run, so a really good race.

Those Were The Days !!!
