i went to advanced auto and bought the socket needed.
i work at an oil change place and we get alot of the 2.2s in, but not alot of the 2.4s

we use a 1 1/4" socket. we had to buy a new 1 1/4" socket that was pre-filed at the top(where extension pops in). so it kinda resembles a bell.

fits like a glove.

Thanks for the replys. I guess I need to visit Sears or Advance for that socket.

What about the filter shavings? Anyone had those? Any problems because of it?
From what I've read they are from machining and were not cleaned from the engine properly at the factory. There is a service bulletin about it, but nowhere to read it without paying.
I think I'll change the filter again after a while to make sure it's all gone.

I use the 32 mm socket just to loosen the lid (2.4L). Then unscrew it by hand. If you try to remove the lid using the socket it jams up on the intake and it all gets stuck.

From what i've heard that is completely normal for the first oil change or two. I never had a problem with it but thats just me.

I changed my oil, I thought it was the easiest oil changed I have done in years.

I'm sure it is easy, with a shallow socket or on a 2.2.
After my experience I recommend no one use a regular wrench.
I looked at the Sears socket and it seems to be perfect.

Thanks for the replys and info. Y'all are awesome.

2.2 & 2.4, same block. My socket also came from Advance. Once you crack the seal on the cap, you remove by hand. You can not take the cap off with the socket in place.

Also if your filter did not snap into the cap correctly, I would change that immediately.

Sorry you had issues, your seem to be ther first with either motor.

This is what is needed but a little expensive from that seller. Better off at Sears or Advanced Auto or another parts store. E-Bay isn't always the lowest price, sometimes they are way out of the ball park.(exampe: I recently bought a infra red thermometer from a store for $7 and the exact make and model was on ebay for $25.
