purchased my 2011 hhr a few months ago,im still working my way around it as it did not come with a owener manual. i cant find the battery,i see the red cover were the jumper cable would go i tried to take the red cover off but it would not budge i did not want to force it for fear i would break it,i took off the cover were i thought the battery would be but it was for the fuses. can any one answer this for me?. thanks in advance. len:

Open up the rear hatch, remove the plastic tray/covers and you will find the battery next to the spare tire.

Before I bought mine, I went to the GM website and downloaded it to peruse. Nothing like the horses mouth.

I think in the rear for the battery is a good location (not that it could fit under the hood).
But it's away from the engine heat..

Years ago we put the battery in the rear for some ballast over the rear tires..(hot rod days).

Len- PS: If you have an automatic, forget looking for a dipstick.. We don't have any..

Len- Just wanted add a little something about the battery being in the rear. If the battery goes dead you won't be able to open the rear hatch to get to it unless you know the trick to opening it manually.There is a way to jump the car off without access to the battery by using the connection under the hood that you found.Just make sure that you use a proper ground,the strut tower nuts are what chevy recommends. If you hook up to both leads on your fuse box both are positive ( some people have thought that they were negitive and positive leads like on the battery) you will blow the fuse for your electric steering motor. Like Donbrew said find you a online copy of the owners manual and download it. Both opening the rear hatch when the battery is dead and jumping a dead battery are covered. You will find a lot of handy info that will not only help you to enjoy your ride more but will help you from doing something that will cost you in the long run.

Actually, only the red terminal on the fuse box is positive, the black one is the power to the power steering. Minor point as both will test hot, but worthy of note, especially for jumping and defying death.
