Best Economy
Best Economy
Since our HHRs all have tachometers, what would be the most economical RPMs to achieve the best econonmy? I have the 2.4 automatic and have been experimenting with not exceeding 2500 rpm in any gear. I have been able to maintain about 27mpg in mostly city driving conditions doing this. Any other ideas as to the ideal RPMs to try?
Through extensive research, it has been determined for you to achieve the best gas mileage .....do not exceed -0- on the tachometer.
Just kidding of course....
Can't help you with the maximum RPM's. But, I would suggest to be careful in your attempts to be frugal. Staying at very low RPM's, while shifting thru the gears, could cause burned valves...under some conditions.
I believe just normal type of operation and good maintenance provide the best longevity for a vehicle.

I run my 2.2L 5 speed in town at 3000rpm and get around 27mpg.
on highway its at the same rpm and i get 33mpg.
I also have a Scangauge 2 hooked up and it reads how well i'm getting too.
it is very close to what i really get. about 2 mpg out....i did the math.lol
