Which is better -- 2.2 (LS) or 2.4 (2LT)??? Looking to buy...

Hello all, this is my first post. I'm considering purchasing a used HHR. Is there a huge difference between the 2.2 and 2.4L engines? Is the 2.4 quite a bit more powerful? Is it then less fuel efficient?

If you'd be willing to list the pro's and con's of each engine (and/or trim level), I'd greatly appreciate it. As it's not a foreign brand, there are no good UNBIASED reviews out there. Thanks!

Size: 5.6 KB to the site!!! Which is better is going to be a matter of opinion. Take a test drive and see which you prefer.

to the best place for anything There will be lots of opinions on which drivetrain is best in the HHR, just like anything you know what they say about opinions! My 06' LS has the 2.2L with a five speed and it's a nice combo. My parents have an 06' also but a 2LT with a 2.4L auto. Not a big difference in power, I get better mileage but not a significant amount (2-4 mpg). I'm sure the 2.0L turbo in the SS is sweet, so it's all in what you want. Test drive all combinations to see which suits your needs best. Let us know what you end up with! Good luck!

Of coarse the 2.4 is better, who can't use more H.P.with only a little less mpg.Silly ?(and I've had both)

When I bought mine, I wanted the 2.2 because of the mileage...sure not that much, but every little bit helps. Let's just say that the engine wasn't my biggest factor, that was the color and sunroof. I would have been happy with a 2.4. I think they're both quite similar. I know my mom's G6 has a 2.4 in it, and it's ok...nothing like my big 350 V8 in my truck!

Again, fuel mileage is going to be according to who is driving the car. Heavy foot/Light Foot? I had a 2.2 1LT for 2 years and it was fine. However, I opted to upgrade to the SS with the 2.0 Turbo.

exactly. i drive 30,000 miles a year so i'm trying to weigh every option. simply getting 1 mpg more than the last fill up makes me smile haha

pros/cons... is one engine more prone to problems than the other?

i know how fuel mileage works--thus i asked the individual who had both engines how mpg differed.
