Big Props to CarMax

Purchased my 2008 LS a couple weeks ago from CarMax with just shy of 27K miles, now CarMax does not haggle but they do stand behind their cars.

Before I purchased the car I noticed it still had the original tires, mfg date of 1408, the 14th week of 2008. Told them I would not buy the car unless they took $1K off or put new tires on it....got burnt by original tires once before when I bought one of my vettes, they were surprised I knew what to look for....they agree to put new tires on it.

Bought the car car and took it home, tires would be there in a couple days. While driving home I noticed a severe vibration in the front end, thought it could be the old tires.

Told them about it when I took the car in for the tires, they said the aftermarket wheels were missing a spacer probably causing the vibration, so they ordered them and put them on.

Driving home I was still not happy with how it drove, still some vibration coming from th front end at speeds over 70 so I took it back.

Had to make an appointment so had the car for a few days, started hearing a banging noise from the rear end, told them about it when I took it back.

So so this is what they did.

Replaced both front ball joints

Replaced both rear shocks

Resurfaced the front rotors and replaced the brake pads

Picking her up tomorrow, hopefully all fixed.....thanks CarMax.

While you are at it, have them inspect the LCA bushings and replace the struts. Make sure the recalls have been done. Make sure you get at least 1 fob that works.

Since it is a 2008 Check that you can reset the tire positions using the directions in the Owner Manual. The car will need a software upgrade if the battery has been dead for a few days. TSB 08-03-16-001b

CarMax will pay to get you a manual, but there is a link for a digital copy in my sig.

It only had one fob but asked for a second and they got me a new one.

Came with all the manuals/paperwork

All recalls have been done.

It’s common to resurface the rotors but have them clean and adjust the rear drum brakes to address that shake.
There are many other parts to inspect, as Whopper said , the rear LCA bushings. I’m surprised they didn’t notice or inspect them when they change the ball joints

Is there something unique about the 2008 and the TPMS?

yes. That TSB is specific to 2008, that was the first year of the mandatory TPMS and the new location for the RCDLR.
