I bought a 2011 HHR for my 17 year old son as his first car. He likes the retro thing so it is the perfect car for him.

I was searching the forums to see if it is possible to program additional key fobs and the general consensus is that the dealer has to do it but most of the posts are old.

I saw this on Amazon and it says it will work to program fobs for the HHR. Will it work?

 

That one will program. Some of the fobs that come with the module don't work right, but the module will work for Genuine fobs they are affordable on ebay/amazon.

 

Thank you! The only one we have is falling apart and unlocking with the key sets off the alarm. I am not sure if anyone else has experienced this. The same thing happened with my 2014 Fiat 500L.

 

The HHR came with 2 fob's new.
I have owned 10 HHR's and only one of them was New.
All of the used ones had 1 FOB.
The prior owners or the dealer HAVE MISPLACED THEM AND DO NOT WANT THE ADDED EXPENSE to make things Whole.
2 of the dealers made good and furnished me the missing one,
Just part of making the deal.
Mention it before you PAY is the best way.

If the one you have works the second one with the module program should work out.
I had none (08 LT) went to dealer for ignition repair under warranty and had one programmed. Got a deal because my daughter worked at dealership 2018 EOY (proud dad)
it worked for awhile then stopped went back to dealer they couldn't figure it out. It remains inoperative stored in glove box for another day. Fob's are handy though with only the drivers door with a key that's not ideal to be without any.
Side bar story: Saturday at Walmart another HHR pulls in in front of me when I was leaving. Young girl was going to give her the but she didn't make eye contact.
That your son like the design is cool and he'll learn it functions well too. Roomy for lots of stuff too!
