Buying Used HHR 2.4....

Hi,
New to the site.
I was looking at buying a used 2.4 HHR, 2009 or 2010 model.
Is there anything I should look for in terms of issues with either year?
Anything to look at in terms of the vehicle itself?

Thanks for your help!!!

Either should be good and unless it has over 36,000 miles on it, you will still be under the 3 yr 36K warranty + you'll have the 5 yr 100K power train warranty.
wondering about the name P-38, the one I was use to is the old P-38 can opener Uncle Sam provided in c-rations, but you may be referring to the P-38 fighter plane or the P-38 Pistol.

Could be the Lightning P-38 recumbent. Doubtful, but this 'bentrider hopes so. ;-)

I just bought a 2008 HHR 2.4 2LT Black Panel with 19,077 miles on it.

And pretty well Loaded too. Got it for 12,000.00 Before my trade and cash down.

Get you Own financing Before you walk into the dealer and make your Deal First before disclosing that you have your own blank check in your pocket.

I applied online with Capital One Auto Finance, pretty painless, Easy to apply , very good no BS rates, and for 15 bucks they will even Fed Ex the Blank check Overnight to you, mine got to my door the next morning by 9AM.

You just write the check for Up too your pre defined limit, then that amount is your loan amount. Or Less like I used. With my trade and cash down I did not need my determined limit. I plan on paying mine off within 1 year, and No penalties for early full payment to capital one either.

Read the fine print on Everything BEFORE signing Anything.

GET THE CARFAX ! and GET IT from the Dealer or Seller for FREE!

IF you are trading anything in, be sure to clean it up inside and out make it look as Good as you can and find out online from places like edmonds.com what it is trading in for and selling for in your area. Print that info and bring it with you.

I traded in my pretty clean 2000 Chevy Astro with 98,000 miles on it and there first offer was $2,000.00.

I let them know I meant Business and would walk out the door if the Insulted me again with a ripoff offer, suddenly, it was worth $4,000.00 to them.

Never let a car salesman run the show, it's YOUR Money your spending.

ALWAYS be ready to walk Out of a car dealer, no matter how badly you Want the car, once they Know you WILL walk away, things like trade in values suddenly rise.

Now go Enjoy your new to you HHR! Congrats!

Personally I'd go with the SS, call me biased but happy.

Hi, Thanks for the feedback so far...

Yeah, been thinking about the SS. I need to check to see what the diffs are between the SS and the 2.4.

As for P-38. It is the recumbent I ride. Also ride an Seiran SL.
Also my Dad was based in Santa Maria when he saw a guy fly a P-38 into a billboard. The Air Force then had a guy come out and show the recruits how to fly a P-38. He said the guy was so good. He flew 30 ft off the ground with one engine stopped and rolled the plane. Now that would have been cool to see. So I like anything P-38. Someday I will see one in person at an airshow. Even have shot my brothers P-38.

PS - HHR going to be around???

I have also heard rumors that Chevy, er, Chevrolet, may discontue the HHR.
Anybody know if this is true? Is then engine being used in anything else? I heard the Equinox uses the 2.4 engine. A dealer told me this, but I don't trust dealers.

Yes GM is ending the HHR, think in 2011 (looks like) but time will tell..

GM uses the 2.4 in other vehicles also, the Malibu is one, & there are others.

If you are looking for comfort & well epuipped. the 2LT is the ticket.

If you want to have a Hot Rod the SS may be for you, Insurance will be higher too..
