Camaro vs HHR SS - Prices

I went to the local Chevy dealer this morning for some small parts for my pickup....

I noticed a new yellow / black Camaro on the showroom, and 3 HHR SS's out front.....2 black and one in royal blue......all were loaded.

The Camaro had the 300 hp V6 engine. What kills me is this.

The Camaro was sooooo sexy and comfortable, and was rated at 29 mpg
highway.

The HHR SS's are also rated at 29 mpg.

Here is what gets me too...the prices.

Camaro - $29.490.00
HHR SS = 27,444.00 to $28.548.00

WTF....1,000.00 to 2000.00 more for a new Camaro

I'd go for the Camaro in a heartbeat if my company didn't require us to have 4 door vehicles (they pay for it). That's just my situation.

Some may prefer the HHR for the utilitarian aspect. You can't go to Home Depot or Lowes and bring home 8' 2x4s or a 6' step ladder in a Camaro. I have done both with my HHR.

Well that $29,490 gets you a 2 door with **** for cargo. So I think what you should be saying is why is the Camaro so damn expensive compared to what you get.

Because you take and put that 1-2K into mods for the HHR and it will be doing quite nicely performance wise, and still be able to carry wet/sandy stuff or a couch, etc. Can't do THAT with the Camaro

If I could find a buyer for my newly purchased 07 for $12,600, then I would buy your SS :)

But that's not going to happen

Why didn't I come to the forums BEFORE buying a car. I searched reviews and such but never thought of joining some forums like this

For perspective, I bought my 2008 HHR SS in March of '09 from a prestigious Acura dealer for $16,891 with 6,775 mi on the odo. The car was (and still is) flawless. Sure, new Camaros are more $$, but give it a year and you might be able to find them "almost new" for a bargain, as I [think I] did with my HHR SS.

I don't believe you can pin one against the other in regard to value. They are both performance oriented vehicles, but beyond that, it depend upon what your other transportation requirements consist of.

I own a SS and just drove a new Camaro SS. I can tell you the car is a blast. Not sub for 426 HP and tossing it into a corner. dusted a Miata pretty well before I left off as I hit 105 before I knew it.

The Camaro is a great car and fun to drive and the best in it's class.

I love my HHR SS too. but these cars are apples and oranges. They both do what they do well and are great performance cars.

The Camaro can be had for less. The base car comes with 304 HP and starts at something like $21,900. For $29K it must have has the RS package and alot of extras. The SS I drove as only $33K and had the RS package and lots of extras but lack a sunroof.

The Camaro is not a wagon and many people either don't need a wagon or are just going to use it as a second or 3rd car for play.

Right now prices are up since it is new and hot. In a year the $29K will be available at $23K.

The resale though I suspect will remain higher with the Camaro since more people will want them in the future. With the HHR SS you either love em or hate them. The market is and will always be strong for a RWD or V8.

I would rather hear your comparison of the V6 304 HP Camaro vs. the HHR SS, since the price is comparable. Can't compare a 40k Camaro SS to a HHR SS, I would expect the 40k Chevy car to be much better in all aspects.

Fact is the fully loaded RS V6 is the same as the SS just with a smaller engine. I have yet to drive the V6 but I have a friend who has a 95 Z28 LT1 and said it was just as fast as his V8 Z.

Also been told the V6 handles a little better due to less nose weight. Not sure how much different but that is the claim.

As for V6 VS HHR SS again apples and oranges. Different cars for different needs. You can't compare them. They are both good vehicles that suit different needs and taste. That is like trying to compare a Porsche 911 to a Tahoe SS. Both are fast and agile but for different needs and taste.

Also you have to factor in there are many performance people who will not accept the V6 yet let alone a 4 banger. We who own them now know better but they have yet to drive a 290 HP engine. Also most hate FWD. I used to be one so I know how they think. I wised up and they will have to in time as RWD will remain but with smaller engines. GM is already working on it.

What about an HHR SS vs Clubman that is comparable
