Is it a car or a truck?

I don't know if this has been discussed on here (did a search and couldn't find a thread), but I get asked all the time, is the HHR a truck or a car?

My insurance classifies it as a truck. The chevrolet.com website has had it listed under suv, truck or car at various times (I'd been 'building' my dream HHR for 2 years!) Personally, I just love my little Blackie regardless of what it is--but just wondering...Thanks!

Since it is built on the Cobalt chassis, I consider it a car. Technically it probably fits best under the crossover label, but everyone views it different. Personally, I can't call something that has very little towing capacity a truck, but that's just me.

It has......many times.

In my book it's a station wagon. So yeah, it's a car.

Mine has car plates, but the dealer shows it as a truck. So I guess you can call it whatever you want.

Car plates up here in BC.

I would class it in the wagon section, even my panel. I don't think it crosses over to anything else.
If it was lifted all whl drive maybe.

Trucks would/should have a full frame.

Remarkably it is considered a truck by GM!

http://media.gm.com/servlet/GatewayS...74&docid=39053

GM lists truck sales in chart 3-1P and car sales in chart 2-1P. The HHR is listed in 3-1P not 2-1P. This classification has the advantage of raising the truck CAFE ratings for the manufacturer. The PT cruiser serves the same function for Chrysler. It is based on the flat load surface, IIRC. I do agree with the poster who argues that it is really a car chassis. GM is probably bringing in more car based trucks in the future.

The first picture is an Australian Holden Ute which is a rear wheel drive vehicle with engine as big 6l. v-8. The second vehicle is a Brazilian Chevrolet Montanna sport with a 1.8 L. 4 Cly engine.
