If the change oil soon indicator came on, it means that the oil life is getting close to 0%. When did you last change the oil?

Owners manual available online - see this post:

Welcome. The oil life reset is suppose to be done when you change the oil. If you dont, the manual says that you have to change oil at 3000 miles. Easiest way to reset it, turn key to Run(dont start) position and tap gas pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. The DIC (Digital Information Center) will say oil life reset.

The maual states that after the warning comes on you should get the oil changed as soon as possible, within 600 miles.

To reset the oil life you turn on the key to RUN but do not start your car. Press and hold the info and reset button to enter the reset menu. scroll using the info button until you see oil life reset on the display. Then hit the reset button (bottom button)

I would wait until you get the oil changed. It says that the computer keeps track of oil life based on RPM's and Temp's of your engine. I don't think you can look at oil and see if it is bad. Plus it should be clean it is a new car.

If you can't remember when you changed the oil, change it now and reset the system. It will let you know when you need to change it again.

With the ignition key on, press the gas pedal to the floor 5 times in 3 seconds to reset the system.

When I had a '99 Silverado I got a special from the Dealer for oil changes that only cost $12.99 (I couldn't buy the oil and filter for that) anyway I would have to check it when I got home and clean up all the oil he dripped on the fan shroud and recheck the level after it sat a while. Once it was a quart low and had to take it back for the extra qt. It took 6 qts w/filter but guess they were use to 5 qt on everything else. Another time the change oil light came on about 2 days after it was change since the dealer didn't reset. After that I would reset myself when I picked it up just to be sure. Those were the only times anyone but me changed oil in my vehicle in the last 45 yrs. Do it myself and I know it is right.

i usually change my oil at 3 to 4k, but on my hhr, if i go by the oil life meter, seems like it will be more than 3k. i am still in the 80% range and i have about 1700 miles, unless it starts to fall faster the lower it goes.

I have close to 7000 on mine and oil life is at about 40%.
I will change it when it tells me.
Everyone needs to get over this changing of the oil at 3000-4000 miles thing

Can we all agree ... Easiest way to reset it, turn key to Run(dont start) position and tap gas pedal 15 times within 1 second?

I change my oil when the DIC says to.
