I believe this is still the case. unless you get a no name brand that buys it from china who uses a low quality knockoff

Just a thought, Has anyone tried a modeling clay from an art store.
I've used meguires and it seems like the clay we used to use in art class.
Or is it from some magical cave in japan ?

That is what I thought. The guy from one of the companies clued me in on it and told me the truth. I know they have been looking for a synthetic sub but have yet to find one.

They key to all of this is there are a lot of good products out there but the general issue is the proper application and use of all these products. Many people only do one of several steps and never get that great final finish.

Ding all the proper steps and using the right materials brings out the best no matter what the brand as long as it is a qualityh product. I use Meguires, Mothers and 3M all to finish my two black cars. The silver I use another mequires wax.

There was a cool link on here last year of a guy in europe that charged like
$ 10,000 for a detail job. It showed some of his steps , It was crazy , Like 15-30 steps with some rare carnubas to boot. It showed him detailing some " Hyper exotics " Search $ 10,000 detail job on you tube.
"Hyper exotics, Am i the first to use that term" It's pre copy writen right now on this site.

Me :

wash while stripping wax, dry , clay bar ALL paint , buff , lay thick coat of wax on ALL paint , wipe off wax , buff . so 7 steps. i should mention the 8th step , califonia dust mop after step 7 , Because it will have dust on it buy then.

Process takes about 3-4 hours, But that time can easily double , Depending on the refreshments enjoyed on that particular day.

Never clay bared a car. How long would a process like this take? I have 7 vehicles, so I have to choose my battles. Of course, my HHR currently has the highest shine.

thanks for all the feedback guys. Anybody find a better price then amazon? They were 15 or 16 and no tax, where as at the store it was just a bit more and then + tax.

when it's time i'll have to find the other post with the tips and tricks on them.

Do I want to do anything else for a black hhr. Use a swirl remover or anything?

If youve got swirls, then yes.
I have found products to be a good price when the manufacturer has a booth at a large car show.
Also, arent the mothers clay bars slightly bigger than the meguiars?

depends on how deep the swirls are, you use the least abrasive product you can to remove the swirls. also depends on what type of equipment your using. da polisher, rotary or hand.

I use optimum polish on a d/a polisher then change pads to match the cut. with black you want to use a carnuba based wax rather than a synthetic wax. and probably a coat of hand glaze under the wax
