Dash Switches

I just picked up my 06 Black HHR, and the fog light switch turns on the 4ways (i have to hold it down) and the 4way switch turns on the fog lights. Could the connections on the back of the switches have been reversed at some point? Is it hard to get the dash off by the switches so i can reverse the wires?

Thanks!

Welcome to the site!!!!

Not sure about the wires that are crossed behind there, I thought the connections were different. Maybe the po switched the wires themselves. To get behind there just pull out with the two vent holes and it should pull right off.

Smile Dash Switches

andoll83, I take it your HHR was bought used ? There is the possability work was done and wires were switched.
Several years ago I bought a new GMC pick up, in NY we have state inspections and after going thru this inspection when I took delevery there was no head light's untill you turned on the 4 way's ? how this got thru the pre delevery let alone state inspection we don't understand. After leaving it with the dealer for almost a week, the service dept ordered a new dash wiring harness. After replacing this mess there still were no lights. The head light switch was replaced as well, still no lights. After nearly three weeks of them working on it they found a ground wire was not connected to the steel dash. After grounding the wire all lights were now working.
Just goes to show even new car's as well as used can have trouble.
GOOD LUCK

I just went outside in the cold of Upstate New York, pulled the dash off (i thought i broke it when it came off!), and sure enough, the wires were switched, so I unplugged them and switched them back... I wonder what kind of work someone had done under there where the wires would have gotten inadvertently switched?

Cool, glad to hear that it worked out. Never know, someone might have had a stereo there or just decided to switch things around for their tastes. At least it worked out and was an easy fix for you.
