Maybe check your tire pressure also with a dial gage not just the dic readings.

Yeah, I noticed that you went from an LS to an LT, too. LS comes with the 2.2L Ecotec. 2.2L standard on 1LT, with 2.4L optional. 2LT comes with 2.4L. There is a difference in gas mileage between the 2.4L and the 2.2L. My 2.2L averages 28.6 in my daily drive/commute, and between 32 and 34 on all-highway trips.

CPEREZ1217 hit on the nail, i am sorry and want to apologize to all of you, for some reason the used car dealer had on the sticker 2.4 on the LS...so today i went to the chevy dealer to take care of my issue, i told my same story to the service person. so he was telling me some possible reasons for my low MPG...so he asked me for the VIN of my hhr to check the record of it in the GM system and i also still had the VIN of the first one (LS)...that's when my mystery was solved......they are completely different.

LS..4 cyl. 2.2 MFI DOHC,16" X 6.5" wheel..P215/55R16 tires

2LT..4 cyl 2.4 HIGH OUTPUT ECOTEC ENGINE.. 17 X 6.5 wheel P215/50R/17

with this information , NOW i can understand why is the difference...

AGAIN I AM SORRY FOR MY MISTAKE.

Your lucky you don't have an SS.

In town mileage is never better then 17. Combined we can hit maybe 20.

Open road is really good though.

We find the computer to be generous.

WAIT A MIN... you say the car is used... before you start dumping stuff into the engine...

does it have the original wheels and tires??? check the owners manual for the proper wheel/tire size...

check the air cleaner...

when you take your foot off the gas pedal... does it feel like the brakes are dragging? or are wheels hot or smell are you drive a while? parking break handle completely down? not trying to be insulting... sometime people forget.
have you had the car serviced yet?

air conditioning on?

tire pressure? 30 + 1or2 front and rear?

are you running on the original tank of gas? could be some real crap in there

put a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank...

do you subscribe to on * read the online report.

HOW MANY MILES on this car... does it need a tuneup... does it feel like it is running smooth and firing on all four

you other guys...
is there anyway that he can tell if this thing has been flashed?
would the air mass make a differance? and can you tell if it is working right.

sorry if i missed this somewhere above... i would take it to the cheepy lube (or your favorite service place) and have it serviced... make sure everything is where it is supposed to be, before adding additives to the engine.

don t be disipointed in the HHR... it is most likely the way is was taken care of before you bought it

Reset the computer from time to time.

My SS is getting 22 MPG with more of a city mix than highway. That includes some runs on the highway of 100+ and some stop light to stop light runs! During break-in period it was averaging 26!

At the dealer it said 17 MPG cause all they did was lot driving and short around the block drives. I asked about it, and the sales guy said to just reset everything on next fill up. Been right on the dot since.

I have a 2008 2LT, 2.4, auto, all the goodies and I get 28.8 mpg city and highway combined. I drive 62-70 mph on the highway and this time of year the AC is on a lot. I use regular gas and tire pressure is 35 cold, gets up to 40 psi on hot days when driving on the highway. I fill up and the DIC says 428 mile range most of the time. I Love my HHR!

Keep your foot out of it!

Compare the HHR mileage to this list for Honda:
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/compx...008&make=Honda

I was surprised that the HHR gets better mileage than the Element.
The Hondas that do get better mileage don't carry as much cargo.
The HHR had the combination of good mileage, enough space to carry this:

and low cost of $15,000 for a former Avis rental car.
I'm happy with it after 2 months.

That would be the reason I am not getting the 26 mpg that I used to

But it is sooooo much fun to mash it!
