And since Canada is in N.America, we should say Canada is one of those mandatory places.

In my state, at least any safety equipment that was installed at the factory must be in good working order. That includes high mounted third brake lights on pick up trucks even when they can't be seen because a cap or camper shell has been installed. The shell does not have to have one if it was manufactured without one.

Again... Thanks to Member Putter, I pulled #31 fuse and it stopped the headlights from coming on in the day time, what I was looking for and tiring to ask about. Others had good input also and I thank all for their replies. For anyone that didn't like the ideal of not running the lights in the day time, well you/I can always put the fuse back in. Remember the lights will still come on when it gets dark, and I can still manually turn them on. I pulled the fuse to keep from running HIDs all day. My friend that has an 06 HHR, with over 250,000 miles has only done one thing to it... replaced the alternator? Could that be because the lights are part-ways or full on all the driving time? But to side with the people that state safety is the issue, well that always wins the debate. Thanks for all inputs, the starting poster.

To tie an alternator failure to the usage of day-time running lights/hedlights is a stretch - a major stretch. One could argue that instead perhaps the person's stereo was too loud, or they used their brake lights too often.

Anyways, glad you made a mention of having HID's - your query makes sense now - even if it may be illegal in most areas.

The 2006 uses the running lights for DRL, so NO.

Really would have been nice IF you had mentioned your reason for asking. I do believe I asked back on the first page.
