So, wonder what the problem really was with that poor old Cadillac Cimarron that we hauled off to the scrap heap and never shed a tear over ...

They should have known not to put a Cadillac name on a Chevy Cavalier.

They were a POS from the beginning.

Citation was an X body

Cavalier and Cimarron were J bodies.

All three were POSs in their time.('80s)

I think Chevy gets the sole responsibility for the Citation. Don't believe any other GM badges used the Citation platform -- thankfully.

The Cimarron was definitely a Cavalier in a rented tux. Reminds me of the old saying ... you can put lipstick on a pig but all it does is waste the lipstick and irritate the pig.

I think there was a Pontiac flavor of the Citation. Maybe. Seem to remember it possibly.

I remember when the Citation first came out. I was in high school and my parents were new car shopping at the time. I was a subscriber to Car & Driver magazine at the time and they did a cover story on the Citation, basically a glowing road test review. I soooo wanted mom and dad to choose the Citation for their car over the Plymouth Volare wagon they were getting ready to get. But they got the Plymouth instead. Mistake. But then again the Citation would probably have been a mistake, too, in hind sight. The car I wanted for me at the time was a Camaro, though. Never could afford it on my high school part time wages. Settled for a '69 Cutlass, 350 4bbl love machine.

I corrected my first post, citation was an X body.

Olds had the Omega and Buick had the Skylark. Pontiac had one I just can't remember the name.

Pontiac Phoenix

I liked the looks of the X-11 Citation. A friend of mines Mom and Dad had a Citation, other than that I don't know much about them.

I had one of those Citations and what a piece of crap that was.

I think the Pontiac version you speak of would be the Phoenix. Oldsmobile also had something similar and called it the Omega.
