You had the repair part. Why not just weld it in ?
Remember the saying. “Fix it right the first time. “

It's a lot of work to measure and get it right. And I procrastinated too long so I was hoping this would be quicker. Already pre payed at AAA but I think they still give a fee if I don't get the smog by the due date (5/8/24)

So it is better to spend twice as much on things that don't work than just pay once and be done? Your friendly local welder or muffler shop probably could do the job right, di you get an estimate? It should take less than an hour in a shop with a lift.

You could do as Oldblue suggested: cut the pipe about 3 inches above the sensor bung then use a pipe expander to expand the repair part to fit over the pipe, then fit the pipe in place and mark the pieces for alinement with a marker. Take to welder. A welder probably has a pipe expander.

I believe the end of the new part fits into the existing pipe. A few people told me it's illegal for them to just say they smell exhaust without a test. But who knows. I got a bad vibe from the smog place.

The local muffler shop wanted $180 to start lol. No thanks.

You paid registration on time. You'll get a "notice of incomplete registration " from DMV. Then you'll have some more time to get the smog done. This is from my own habitual procrastination experience.

I can't remember how it went last time. I swear I remember them charging a late fee. Hopefully not.

Anyways, some other people in the local fb group said they went to the same place and failed, then went down the street and passed. So I guess I just went to a bad smog place. Going to go first thing monday to the local guy everyone suggests.
