Read in Wall Street Journal about a Class Action lawsuit against GM reguarding excessive oil consumption/engine failure Suit was in either Canada or Australia and I wonder if anyone knows of it is USA. My 2006 HHR has the larger engine P Code. Bought a year agfo with 107,241 as a second owner (all my used car man sells, one owner cars)..Have oil changed by regular place and they say now twice, there is an oil drip near the oil filter at a sending unit. My remote start does not work. Gave up as too many possible reasons. My left side sunroof deflector rodbroke and not fixed yeat. 2006 rod rivited, later rods bolt in..simply don't use the sunroof. I'm a driver, not a fixer of things like remote start and now sunroof common problem..Now excessive oil consumption class action lawsuit??

The only class action I know of is related to the recalls of 2014 diminishing the resale value.

 

The suit involves an ECOTEC engine all I recall it said 4 cylinder and from outside the US...I'll try to recall WSJ article, was this week. Paper recycled..easier to get WSJ site to try as I receive it daily as a gift from a friend. Probably have to log on pw and all that to view. Public Library has back copies, may go on line there...I still have a Library Card! LOL

 

The oil problem involved 2012 Ecotec direct injection version used in vehicles like the Equinox.

 

Three of my HHR’s had/have more than 100K miles. None burned any oil.

A 2006 might be 16 years old at this point. After recalls, most HHR’s fared OK. The two issues that bother me because they haven’t been addressed are the fuel line leaks and the timing chain issues. There have been quite a few formal complaints about the former, and an open NHTSA investigation that seems to be waiting for someone to die. Cheap to fix. Timing chain, no so much.

On balance I must be pretty happy with HHR’s because I’ve owned 4 and still have 2. My only real source of dissatisfaction is timing chain anxiety. By failing to address this sort of reliability issue over the years, GM has handed huge market share to foreign competition.

 

Huh. LEA. 2.4 Flex Fuel. Wonder what screwup change led to oil burning. That motor can’t be much different than the LE9 that was in 2009-2011 2.4 HHR’s.

 

It has direct injectors different from the LE9 , the LEA wasn’t good with oil consumption

Yeah, my point was, there must have been some other change that caused the oil burning; direct injection alone wouldn’t do that.

Ah HAH! Trying to cool the pistons by squirting lots of oil at them, maybe without adequate testing to see if the rings and skirt design could manage the increased oil load?

Check your oil, people, and keep a small problem small.

 

Probably the same system as they used on our turbo engines.
