Wink Everyone Knows the HHR is "rated" @ 1,000lbs.

Hey all,

Just installed a hidden hitch on Black Bettie (08 panel) and we did thorough research on what we can pull and can't pull. But here's a neat question.

What's the heaviest/biggest thing you have made you HHRs pull? Pics are always awesome.

We are going to pull my Harley which I have posted in another tread and with the motorcycle we plan on exceeding the 1k "rating" by 100-200lbs.

I guess we are looking for a all you proud HHR owners to brag about what they have towed and how your HHR handled the load.

Thanks!

I've towed my motorcycle on an open trailer from Chicagoland to Boone, NC and then Deals' Gap and back again. No problems from the HHR. It doesn't weigh as much as a Harley, but it isn't a lightweight either. I think it was probably right around 1000 lbs but I didn't weigh it.

I just bought 2 new ATV's that I will need to haul, but I don't know if I want to cut up the bumper or not. Could you post a picture of your new hitch so I could see how it looks?

You don't have to cut your bumper. If you buy the Hidden Hitch it mounts under the bumper with a draw bar that then curves up from the hitch. That way the actual ball sits higher than the hitch receiver.

I wish I could add a picture but I'm at work and the pics are on the home computer.......

Thank you, I feel better about adding the hitch now.

I have about 650 lbs of stereo equipment in the back and can barely tell that its there.
I am rebuilding now though and will be closer to 1,000 lbs in the cargo area.

Not about cargo weight. It's how much the frame will support where the hitch is mounted.

If you read carefully the 1000 pound rating is reduced by any load carried in the car. It is rated 1000 pounds with just the driver. You can't load the car up then hitch a trailer to it and expect it to operate correctly in an emergency.

Just be careful towing if you have an automatic transmission. Don't be towing in D as when the car is in OD it stresses the transmission. That is what I gear is for.
