The 1LT i purchased has an aftermarket alpine single cd player am/fm in it that I dont like. Id like to put the oem stereo back in. Can someone tell me without me wading thru previous posts, how can i tell which radio it came with? Thanks

Get the RPO codes off the glovebox sticker and look it up. Don't remember which is which but I think all the stereo options started with a "U" ?

Anyhow. This site has a sticky that lists all the RPO codes.

Yes you will have to have the VIN number from the downer vehicle to get it to work, that and a tech that knows how to make the tech 2 programing machine work.

Way back when I joined this site it was because my stereo did not play all the time. I was convinced that it was the radio itself, turned out to be just bad speakers. In the meantime I put an old Clarion AM/FM/CD stereo that had been in my '90 Mazda for a while into the HHR. It worked fine for a while [but I had no warning chimes at all] then stopped again. That is when I figured out it was the speakers themselves.

I replaced the speakers and put the original HHR speakers into some crudely built boxes and hooked them to the old Clarion in the garage where they worked fine till a month or so ago. now one has stopped working completely. I don't mind so much now that they are no longer in the car.

There are many GM radios in many GM vehicles that will work in the HHR. pick a nice one maybe with built in blue tooth and USB and have it installed. Make yourself happy.

I saw "refurbished" radios that are plug n' play for $90 on ebay. Evidently they put a new blank chip in them.
