First Cruise In My New HHR
First Cruise In My New HHR
Hello Everyone -
I picked up my 2007 HHR LS (Black on Black) yesterday morning. Just got back this morning from a 100 mile round trip to a friend's house. Here are my impressions and observations:
1. The salesman who sold me the HHR had to pick it up at a dealership in New York (I live in New Jersey). He told me that he never realized what a nice ride the HHR has. I am in complete agreement with him. It's quieter and smoother than the 2004 Mercedes-Benz that I traded for it.
2. It is even more attractive in reality than it is in pictures - and pictures are what originally enticed me. The people I have shown it to felt compelled to say it looks like a PT Cruiser - probably because that vehicle is more familiar to the general public and has been around several years. Of course it's a matter of opinion, but the HHR beats the PT Cruiser in looks hands-down.
3. The overhead traffic signal visibility issue is real. I will purchase one of those prism-thingies that reflect the traffic lights.
4. I opened the under-hood fuse/relay box and all of the fuses and relays were found to be firmly seated. I guess that issue has been resolved.
5. The analog temperature gauge seems to sit just below the half-way mark. The DIC readout ranged between 191 Degrees at highway speed to 212 Degrees in stop-and-go traffic, with the A/C on (even though it wasn't necessary yesterday in NJ). I will rely on feedback from the forum to determine if this is typical or an anomaly to be investigated.
6. Having had a driver's license for 41 years, most of the cars I have owned have either been blah or somewhat disappointing, Then again, this is only the second vehicle I have purchased brand-new. I have been looking like that smilin' Bob character in those male-enhancement TV commercials for the past couple of days. If the build-quality of the HHR proves out and I behave myself behind the wheel, that grin could be my driving face for a long time!
