Found Problem for all HHR's (possibly)

This is not really a searchable item, but, those out there who have had multiple HHRs, by that I mean, a 2.0, a 2.2 and a 2.4, I believe most of the body wiring is the same, but, my question is, what about the engine wiring, are they all basically the same?

I've worked on both the 2.2 and the 2.4, and there are differences like the cam position sensors on the 2.4 but not on the earlier 2.2's
I haven't had an SS in the shop yet for any engine work just struts and shocks and oil and filter, so no electrical work yet.

Check the part numbers on gmpartsdirect?

I am guessing the 2.2 VVT and the 2.4 would be the same. 2.0 has all that extra stuff.

Not only are there differences between the HHR's due to which engine is smuggled between the front fenders, but there are differences between model years.

2006's - First model year, even the block castings are different.

2007-2008 - Revised engines across the board.

2009-2011 - More revisions, Flex-Fuel capabilities, etc.

I was talking about the engine wiring harness only. I thought that's what the OP meant.

Don is correct, I had been having an off and on electrical gremlin with the wife's '06 2.4 2LT auto. After conferring with a GM Tech friend, and calling one more GM tech, we found the problem to be the wiring harness on the motor and where the harness was anchored to various places on the motor. These spots were actually wearing through the insulation and wreaking havoc on the computer (ECM/ECU/PCM) After recovering the worn area, and further protection from rubbing, the problem was solved. I wanted to point this out so as to be able to help future owners prevent and or fix this problem. I can post pictures as to where to look, just needed to know if the harness is the same for all the motors.

The harnesses may not be identical , but the mounting points would almost be!
So please post those pictures!
And by the way, thank you for taking the time to share this info.

Seems to me I recall a TSB about wire chafing under the hood.

With any of the following ECOTEC engines:

2.0L Engine (RPO LSJ/LNF)

2.2L Engine (RPO L61/LAP)

2.4L Engine (RPO LE5/LE9/LAT)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A technician may comment of intermittent CEL, DTC's or No communication with various modules. This may be caused by a short to ground of the vehicle wiring in the engine harness.

Recommendation/Instructions:
The harness may chaff in the area of the Canister Purge Solenoid attachment bracket, causing an intermittent shorting to ground. The harness routing forces the harness into the edge of the bracket. This bracket is present with any Ecotec engine. The Purge Solenoid bracket may have a sharp edge from the manufacturing/shearing operation. If any DTCs are setting consistently, perform the eSI diagnostics and repair as necessary. If the eSI diagnostics do not isolate the concern, inspect the engine harness for potential shorts to ground at the EVAP purge valve bracket on the side of the cylinder head. Then repair and reposition the circuits/harness as necessary.

Note: To prevent future chaffing remove the sharp edge from the purge solenoid bracket and add conduit to the engine harness at the ECM and Purge Solenoid harness breakout.

This PI applies to all DTCs Listed below:
