Fuel Tank Capacity Which is it?
Here is GM's data on the fuel tank capacity.
1) 2007 Canadian brochure: litre/imp gal -------------- 65/14.3 2) 2008 GM Canadian Web Site:litre/imp gal -------------- 49/10.8 3) 2008 GM US Web Site:gal approx ---------------- 16 That is three different sizes. Which is it? |
2007 LT 16 gal
My manual says 16 gal for my car a 2007 2.2 LT. That seems about right but I have only put in 12.3 gal. at the most. Just got my car with 29000 miles on it and put 4000 miles on it in 28 days. I never let it go below 3/4 tank and I usually cruise at 80 on the interstate.

its 16 gal

16 gallon US = 13.322 imperial gallon
16.2 gallon US = 13.489 imperial gallon |
My manual says 16.2 gallons
2008 HHR SS |
My manual says 16.2 US GAL.
I have filled up right at the 1/4 tank mark, and it took 12 gallons. I have filled up at the 1/2 tank mark, and it took 8 gallons. I have filled up at the 3/4 tank mark, and it took 4 gallons. I wont fill up from empty. lastly, the needle does go slightly above full, which would probably support the 16.2 gallon theory. |
If you would care to see what each of the 3 (2006, 2007, 2008) US Owners Manuals say, you can locate it in the on-line owners manuals that were courteously posted by our Moderators...here.....

I put 16.1 gallons in it one time on a long trip. That was very surprising since I thought the tank was only 16 gallons.

Yes, I was! The total mileage I can travel on a tank of gas is higher in the HHR than in my old minivan. I almost forgot I needed to fill up until the LOW FUEL message appeared on the DIC. Fortunately, the next exit on the interstate did have a gas station or I would have been walking!
