I'm done! The silver 201 HHR is no longer on my To-Do list, no longer gathering dust in my driveway. It's a working, driving car again!
A couple of weeks ago, I reserved the afternoon to getting it done. Got the brake-and-light inspection, no problem there, then to the DMV for the VIN check and rest of the paperwork. BUT the guy doing the VIN check found that the VIN sticker on the driver door was missing, so he passed me off to the CHP. The field office he suggested was booked full until MARCH 22. Some determined research found another office with almost no wait time - got it verified yesterday.
Went straight to the DMV, and got-it-done! New license plates, even.
Thanks for all the good ideas and suggestions, everyone! Now I can get on to more fun stuff - new wiper blades, re-installing the cargo light (you may remember that from a previous thread), maybe even some fun mods. (But not too much, it's still valued as a salvage title.)
And I'm keeping both this one, and the 2011 dark blue HHR I bought to replace it. Just like which coat to wear, I can decide which HHR I want to drive on any given day....
Here's pics of the Silver, all done. Once I get the Blue washed, I'll take a pic of them together.
The Silver drives like a dream, like it always did. None of that was ever impacted. The front bumper cover is cracked, so I might monitor the U-Pull yard later, and if a late-model Silver comes in, get a new bumper. After all, I know how to remove them now....
Color would be the issue; hellshotrod said that they changed the color of silver for the later models, so if I found a 2006, 2007, etc. it wouldn't match. And yeah, the SS is totally different.
On the back of the rear seat, on each side nearest the door, are small rectangular holes about 3/4" x 2". Nearby, on the interior paneling, are short black elastic cords with some sort of bracket on the end. The brackets look like they should go in the holes, but they're too big, and I don't know what purpose they'd serve anyway.
